Be Thinking About This One

At the Emporia State University Homcoming events this past weekend (Oct 22nd., 23rd. and 24th) the Scott's toured the renovation and new addition of the Memorial Union on the ESU Campus.

Bev and I, both being alums of the university, were interested in seeing the new renovation and also the veteran's display that has been in the union for many years. As it worked out the day we toured the union building (Homecoming, Sat. morning) the veteran's room was occupied with meetings so we were unable to see the displays, but our tour guide was the manager of the Memorial Union and in visiting with him, he assured me that the vets room is usually not occupied and could be viewed about any time, so we decided to return at a later date.

At the 2009, 1011th reunion in Emporia, there was several members of our group that had seen the veteran's display in the ESU Student Union and asked me if I would see about getting the 1011th recognized in the vets room with a display of some pictures, a roster and some other artifacts that could be put together of our unit. Since the vet's room was not available during my visit on Homecoming weekend, I have decided that when I return to the union later I will take some pictures that I can post so our unit members can see how the other vet's displays are setup. Before I post the pictures I will get some other details on space available, additions to the display later as needed, etc.

Be thinking about what you might have that is setting on a shelf collecting dust somewhere that could be loaned to the university for a 1011th display in their Memorial Union. After I get some pictures on the blog of the other vet's displays I will be taking suggestions on our future display.

On a quick count, it looks like maybe around 50 men of our unit were former ESU students and graduates.

More details will be coming. Larry Scott
